JD.com Launches Digital RMB Payments Promotion for Singles Day

Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com accepted payments in digital yuan from October 31 to November 11 in honor of Singles Day. During this period, about 100 thousand people used the state digital currency.

Singles Day is celebrated in China on November 11th. This holiday is very popular with Chinese citizens who are not in a relationship. In honor of this holiday, Chinese retailer JD.com
spent a promotion by announcing the acceptance of the People’s Bank of China (PBOC) digital currency on the dates indicated. A spokesperson for JD.com said that around 100,000 people used the digital yuan during the campaign. The internet giant will continue to test and explore the central bank’s digital currency.

The site became the first Chinese e-commerce company to accept digital yuan back in December last year, according to a JD.com spokesperson. So, from December 11, 2020 to June 18, 2021, about 450,000 customers used the digital yuan to pay for goods through the JD.com app, and their total purchases amounted to more than 100 million digital yuan ($ 15.6 million).

JD.com platform was founded in 1998 and is positioned as the largest online store in China. She is actively testing government cryptocurrency, not only accepting it as payment. In April, JD.com tested digital yuan salary payments even though it had yet to officially launch. Earlier, a former NBK researcher said that the digital yuan was originally created as a competitor to private payment systems, in particular Alipay.
