JD Vance used the first part of his speech in the CBS News debate against Tim Walz to introduce himself to American voters this Tuesday (1).
“I was raised in a working-class family. My mother needed food assistance for periods of her life. My grandmother needed Social Security help to raise me, and she raised me in part because my own mother struggled with addiction for a large part of my life,” Vance said.
“I went to college with the GI project after I enlisted in the Marine Corps and served in Iraq, and so I stand here asking to be your vice president with extraordinary gratitude for this country, for the American dream that made it possible for me to live my dreams”, he added.
Vance said his goal is to convince voters that a second Donald Trump presidency would make the American Dream more attainable.
“I want to try to convince you tonight, in the next 90 minutes, that if we have better leadership in the White House and we have Donald Trump back in the White House, the American Dream will be achievable once again,” Vance said before responding to first question.
Historical debate
The event marks the first and only confirmed debate between JD Vance, Donald Trump’s candidate, and Tim Walz, Kamala Harris’ candidate, while polls show a tight scenario in the 2024 race for the White House.
The confrontation will last 90 minutes and will not feature opening speeches or an in-studio audience. See all the rules through this article.
