Jean Paul Prates management should deal with energy transition, says expert

The coordinator of the Instituto Clima e Sociedade Roberto Kishinami believes that the new president of Petrobras Jean Paul Prates “has touched on essential points”, such as the energy transition.

In an interview with CNN Radio the specialist stated that this brings a “good expectation” for Prates’ management at the head of the state-owned company.

According to Kishinami, Brazil is favored to a certain extent by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in terms of natural gas.

“Brazil does not have the same dependence on gas as Europe and has better investment alternatives, more profitable, in renewable sources”, he explained.

In this way, “this sets Brazil apart from other parts of the world.”

Kishinami reinforced that, given this scenario, “investment in renewable sources would have a greater return.”

“As a result, Prates is right when he points to this type of investment as preferential for the future, to build in a balanced way”, he added.

The specialist sees a “double path” that Brazil will have to follow.

While the demand for oil will continue internationally for the next decade and Brazil should continue to export, the country, internally, sees renewable energy as “the best investment opportunity.”

“We need an adequate policy for both paths”, he concluded.
