Jeep forced to recall 37 thousand Grand Cherokee due to software error

The American automobile company Jeep has officially announced the launch of a fairly large recall campaign for the Grand Cherokee L SUV. The manufacturer had to recall all vehicles that were produced between December 3, 2020 and July 27, 2021 in order to fix a software bug in the special smart lighting module. The fact is that due to an error in the firmware, this module may incorrectly perform the task assigned to it, turning off one or two headlights at once, and even while driving, which makes the operation of such a vehicle simply impossible.

At the same time, the number of cars subject to the recall campaign is really impressive – the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announces a recall campaign for 37 thousand Jeep Grand Cherokee L cars, the start of which is scheduled for January 28 of this year. All SUV owners will receive a notification advising them to visit an authorized Jeep dealer to receive a full flash of the smart lighting module. And although the notification is more advisory in nature, it is better for the owners of this car not to delay the flashing.

In addition, it is worth noting that this procedure is absolutely free for the owner of an SUV, which means that it is definitely not worth taking risks and driving without one or two headlights. However, this is not the first problem with the headlights on the Grand Cherokee – in October last year, Jeep had already recalled 7,000 SUVs due to problems with high beam headlights, but then the problem was not as critical as it is at the moment. Still, 37 thousand SUVs with a flaw in the software, because of which the car cannot be operated, is a much more serious problem.
