Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck Didn’t Let Stomach Pain Ruin Their Big Day

Nothing—not thunder, not lightning, not even a stomachache—was going to get in the way of the big day. Jennifer Lopez .

So says the star herself, who in her latest newsletter opened up about “unexpected setbacks” that threatened to spoil her marriage with Ben Affleck .

“It rained at sunset every day that week. Everyone was worried about the heat, the aptly named ‘love bugs’, the details, whether guests would arrive on time, etc. — not to mention the thunder and lightning that arrived almost on time every day at the exact time the ceremony was supposed to start that Saturday,” Lopez wrote.

“Oh, and we all got one stomach problem and we were on the mend by the end of the week, this, along with a few other unexpected setbacks, had all the makings of a wedding weekend.”

But like a page torn out of one of his romantic comedies, it all worked out.

“At six forty-five on Saturday, August 20, the sun came out and cast its rays like little diamonds dancing over the river behind the makeshift altar in our backyard,” she wrote.

“The sky was clear blue, and distant clouds of pure white held steady in the sky. As the sun went down behind the oaks draped in Spanish moss, a warm breeze swept across the lawn where our closest family and friends sat, and lastly, I started down the stairs that would become the hallway that would take me to the rest of the house. my life”.

This scene, apparently directed by God himself, ended with a “yes” (the second of them, technically) and, Lopez said, a day that was “divinely complete.”

The couple met in December 2001 on the set of the movie “Gigli”, where they played criminals trapped in a job together and the two struck up a real-life friendship. In November 2002, the two became engaged, but postponed their wedding in September 2003, citing “excessive media attention” surrounding their pending nuptials.

They never made it to the altar and officially called off their engagement in January 2004.

They were romantically reunited nearly 17 years later.

“Years ago, we had no idea that the path ahead would mean navigating so many labyrinths and storing so many surprises, blessings and delights. It all culminated in this moment, one of the most perfect of our lives,” wrote Lopez. “We couldn’t be happier. I wish you all the same kind of happiness… the battled kind that is even sweeter for the journey that came before this.”
