Jennifer Lopez launches new film with “muso” Affleck by her side

Jennifer Lopez explores her experiences of love and relationships in the new film “This Is Me…Now: A Love Story”, which premiered on Tuesday (13) in Hollywood, where she walked the carpet with her husband, the actor and director Ben Affleck.

The musical film, which coincides with the release of Lopez's new album, titled “This is Me…Now,” addresses her love life and the nature of relationships, including with herself, through characters from her self-written drama.

“It became more important for me to grow as a person and as an artist by being more exposed and more honest about things,” she said in an interview with Reuters.

“So this is something that felt very organic to me to do at this point in my life, with the things I've been through and the things I've learned.”

The 54-year-old actress and singer, who has been married four times, was first engaged to Affleck in 2002, which led to her hit album “This is Me…Then,” but the wedding was called off in 2003 and the couple separated a few months later.

Fast forward to 2021, and the couple reunited and got married in July 2022.

“I don’t know how comfortable he is with being the muse for me,” Lopez said, reflecting on how her 51-year-old husband feels when she shares details of their relationship.

“He couldn’t give me more support, love and encouragement to express myself exactly the way I want, which I think is so beautiful and generous of him.”

The 65-minute film, directed by Dave Meyers, features some of the 13 tracks from Lopez's self-titled ninth studio album, including “Mad In Love” and “Dear Ben Pt. II”.

In addition to Lopez, who plays the character called “artist” in the film, other roles are played by actresses Sofia Vergara and Keke Palmer, rapper Post Malone – and Affleck.

“(Affleck) didn’t really understand what I was doing half the time” during filming, Lopez said.

“That's the blind kind of love and faith that a person in your life should have for you… It makes me braver than I would normally be on my own… And I'm very brave.”

“This Is Me… Now: A Love Story” premieres on the Prime Video streaming platform starting Friday. The new album will be released on the same day.
