Jeremy Renner talks about accident in 1st interview: “I was awake the whole time”

Jeremy Renner sat down for his first interview since the New Year’s Eve accident that could have killed him. A trailer for “Jeremy Renner: The Diane Sawyer Interview – A Story of Terror, Survival and Triumph” debuted on Wednesday.

In it, Renner talks about being crushed by a snowplow he operated on New Year’s Day near his Nevada home. Sawyer asks if he remembers the pain of being hit by the seven ton vehicle and he replies.

“Oh, all that, yes, I was awake the whole time.”

The interview also includes touching moments with Renner’s nephew, who he was trying to save from being run over by the machine at the time of the accident. Renner told the presenter that he would not change what happened.

“Yes, I would do it again because I was going straight to my nephew,” he said.

Sawyer read over Renner’s list of injuries, including eight broken ribs in 14 places, a fractured eye socket, a collapsed lung, and his liver punctured on a rib. These days the actor said he looks in the mirror and sees “a lucky man”.

“I lost a lot of flesh and bone in this experience, but I was replenished and replenished with love and titanium,” said Renner.

The interview with the actor will air on April 6 on ABC and will air the following day on Hulu.
