Jerome Powell: “The Federal Reserve will discuss the digital dollar with the public”

According to the chairman of the US Federal Reserve Jerome Powell (Jerome Powell), this year the department plans to hold large-scale discussions on the digital dollar.

During the hearings of the Financial Services Committee of the US House of Representatives, Powell noted that there are still many technical and regulatory issues regarding digital currencies. To discuss these issues, the American regulator will take a number of events.

“This will be an important year. We will be communicating much more with the public this year, ”Powell said.

In doing so, he expects that the public will give feedback on specific issues and problems of the digital dollar, and not on the very idea of a digital currency. The development of a state cryptocurrency will require the approval of politicians, although it is too early to talk about it – it all depends on the development progress.

The action plan will be presented later. Recall that, as Powell said earlier, the first priority for the regulator is to develop a regulatory framework for stablecoins, and there is no rush to develop a digital dollar.
