The newly elected Pope Leo XIV held his first mass facing the cardinals this Friday (9), in the Sistine Chapel, in the Vatican.
During the homily, the moment the Pontiff speaks towards those present, Leo XIV stated that “there are many scenarios in which Jesus, although appreciated as a man, is reduced to a kind of charismatic or superman leader.”
Speech was part of the Pope’s general sermon on lack of faith. According to him, this happens “not only among non -believers, but also among many baptized Christians,” warning that by putting Jesus in this place “they end up living at this level in a state of practical atheism.”
Leo still recalled his predecessor: “This is the world that has been entrusted to us, a world in which, as Pope Francis has taught us so many times, we are called to witness our joyful faith in Christ Savior.”
During the celebration, the new Vatican leader said he will be a “faithful administrator” and hopes to help the church bring light “to the dark nights of the world.”

American cardinal Robert Prevost was elected Pope by the conclave on the afternoon of last Thursday (8) in the Sistine Chapel.
Just over an hour after the white smoke signaled that a name was chosen, he appeared in St. Peter’s Basilica for the crowd and the world that expected to know the new pontiff.
As a Pope, Prevost chose the name Leo XIV, used by the last cleric more than a century ago.
