Jetour T-1 frame SUV introduced in China: like Land Rover Defender, only cheaper

In January of this year, Jetour, which is a subsidiary of the Chinese automotive giant Chery, introduced its new T-1 frame SUV in concept format. Even then, company representatives spoke about the desire to soon release the car in a series, and yesterday, August 26, the Jetour T-1 vehicle was officially presented at the Chengdu Motor Show – this was reported by the Chinese Automobiles publication. The novelty attracted a lot of attention, as the segment of impressive SUVs is actively gaining popularity in China, plus the manufacturer also does not plan to delay the release – the car should appear in the local Chinese market in the third quarter of 2023. And, importantly, there are huge chances that the Jetour T-1 will come to Russia.

The body design of the SUV turned out to be more than worthy, but, of course, fans of this car segment will immediately notice the resemblance to well-known competitors. For example, from the back, and from the side, the Jetour T-1 is very similar to one of the best SUVs in the world, the Land Rover Defender (we are talking about an extended version). True, the manufacturer uses its own design developments such as stylish brake lights, a square spare tire compartment and more. From the front, the car vaguely resembles the Ford Bronco, especially the characteristic inscription on the radiator grill is striking. But the overall impression of the body is extremely positive – it looks strong and ready for testing.

Of the interesting, it is worth highlighting retractable door handles, which are very rare on SUVs, a rather unusual rear door on the upper hinges and a special platform on the roof for landing a drone. This is a pretty nice bonus for travelers who want to conveniently fly a drone without having to find a landing pad or scratch the hood. In addition, I would like to note that there are no cardinal changes in terms of design in comparison with the concept car shown in January of this year – the manufacturer is either ready to release this version, or after the presentation, changes will still be made.

But again they decided not to show the salon – it was reliably hidden from prying eyes at the presentations, so, apparently, the Jetour T-1 is not quite ready yet. Yes, and there is still no information about the power plant of the stylish SUV, although a company representative said earlier that the new product will be built on the Kungpeng platform from Chery. But given that Russia and Kazakhstan are among the brand’s future markets, this SUV is clearly worth the wait.
