Jill Biden, the Inauguration concert dress reappears. But this time in blue

From the official announcement of Joe Biden’s victory in the American elections, we already imagined that his life partner and beyond, the educator and author Jill Biden, she would have been a very different First Lady from the previous one. Starting from his public image: with i her less “unattainable” looks compared to those of Melania Trump, and her relaxed and welcoming allure, the new Flotus has always wanted to communicate simple and intuitive messages through clothing. On the occasion of the Inauguration concert, for example, held last January at the White House, Jill Biden opted for a dress and coat that symbolized the unity of the USA, with the embroidery of the flowers symbolic of each state, also paying homage to the tradition of the bouquet bracelet.

But not only that: the choice of the designer, on public occasions of global visibility, has a considerable weight, and Jill Biden has understood this well since the beginning of the presidential term. In fact, it was none other than to sign her look for the Inauguration concert Gabriela Hearst, a stylist of Uruguayan origins – who has also recently joined the artistic direction of Chloé – and champion of sustainable fashion. So much so that, as stated by the designer herself, the dress and mask worn by the First Lady were made locally in New York, and entirely from waste fabrics. And such a significant outfit could only be re-proposed.

In fact, during President Joe Biden’s first speech to Congress on April 28, Jill Biden wore the same dress as Gabriela Hearst last January, but … in a version blu navy. It was originally made for the rehearsal of the Inauguration concert, but at the request of the First Lady, it was set aside for a second occasion, which arrived just this week. Again, the Delaware state flower was embroidered in the heart of the First Lady, with the detail of the other branches on the transparent part of the bodice. A more discreet style choice, compared to the – deliberately – impactful ivory white one, but once again an intentional gesture that reaffirms the importance of national unity and America’s growing attention to the issue of sustainability and climate change , as announced by Joe Biden in the very first days as president.
