Guitar legend Jimi Hendrix would have turned 80 this Sunday (27). The artist died in November 1970 in London.
Hendrix is recognized worldwide, and in Brazil, his songs are still successful. Taking advantage of this date, ECAD (Central Collection and Distribution Office) carried out a survey gathering all of his work.
The survey carried out by the institution showed that “Little Wing” was the song written by Jimi Hendrix most recorded and played in the last 10 years in the country in the main segments of public performance. Among the most played, songs like “Purple haze”, “Foxey lady”, “Voodoo child” and “Red house” also stood out.
Jimi Hendrix has 230 musical works and 781 recordings registered in the ECAD database. In the last 10 years, almost 80% of its income from copyright in Brazil came from the segments of shows, TV and radio. These values are intended for the artist’s heirs for 70 years after his death (or the last author, in case of partnerships).

According to Ecad, all foreign artists have their copyrights in public performance guaranteed in Brazil.
Collective management associations (Abramus, Amar, Assim, Sbacem, Sicam, Socinpro and UBC) have representation or reciprocity contracts with foreign companies of the same nature throughout the world.
That is, when a foreign song is played here in Brazil, ECAD collects the values referring to the copyright of this performance and distributes them to Brazilian associations, which will guarantee transfers to these artists.
