Joachim of Denmark moves to Washington, the official announcement

The first rumors were launched last November by the Danish magazine BTnow it’s official: Joachim of Denmark, second son of the queen Margrethe II, is ready to move to Washington.

The 53-year-old prince is about to leave his job at the Danish Embassy in Paris after four years, where he dealt with defense, but was also a cultural representative of his country. In the United States he will hold a very similar position, in order to strengthen ties and industrial cooperation between Denmark and the United States, but also with Canada. A position that is certainly important and strategic, which will lead him to completely change his life starting from next September 1st, when he will officially start his new job.

His wife will follow Marie Cavallier and the two youngest children, Henrik, 13 years old, and Athena, 11, while the older ones, Nikolai And Felix, respectively 22 and 20 years old, born from the first marriage with Alexandra Manley, they are autonomous guys, launched into the world of fashion and have been away from home for some time now. What the four brothers have in common is the fact that they can no longer use the titles of “prince” and “princess”, at the behest of their grandmother queen.

“It was a surprise. We are sad and in shock. Kids feel marginalized. Not a small controversy, so much so that Margrethe II was forced to intervene on the matter: «Having a royal title entails a series of obligations and tasks, which in the future will concern fewer and fewer family members. An unquestionable decision, even by those directly involved, who, however, while acknowledging it, did not swallow it.

And it is natural to wonder whether Joachim’s transfer to the United States has anything to do with this storm, at least in part, also considering that the relationship between Marie and her sister-in-law Mary Donaldsonwife of the heir to the throne Frederik, would not be idyllic. Rumors, as often happens, but in no court is there room for two future queens. Marie and Joachim will have to find their dimension away from Europe, just as their children will have a life more similar to that of “normal” people than to that of two nobles.
