In 2007, the CNN Specialist in culture, João Carlos Martins, played for the first time as a conductor at Carnegie Hall, in New York, with the presentation “Amazônia para semper”. This Tuesday (14), Martins spoke about the importance of the Amazon region for Brazilian culture.
Martins explained that the rubber boom, at the beginning of the 20th century, gave rise to two of the main theaters in Brazil in the North region: the Teatro Amazonas, named after the state where it was built, and the Theatro da Paz, in Pará.
“I have a huge honor to have made my first performance as a conductor at Carnegie Hall thinking about the sustainable Amazon”, said the conductor. “The Amazon is a heritage of our planet.”
O CNN Specialist He also highlighted the importance of indigenous culture and said that, in the Orchestrating project, of which he is a part, indigenous young people also participate. “I want to take these young indigenous people, from Venezuela and Brazil, to play “The Four Seasons” by Vivaldi at Carnegie Hall”, declared Martins.
