João Pedro Barroso do Nascimento is appointed president of the CVM

The President of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro, and the Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, appointed lawyer and professor João Pedro Barroso do Nascimento to serve as president of the Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM).

He will have a term of office until July 14, 2027 and enters the vacancy resulting from the end of the term of Marcelo Santos Barbosa.

Barroso do Nascimento had his nomination for the position approved in April by the Federal Senate. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Law from PUC-Rio and a master’s and doctorate in Commercial Law from the Law School of the University of São Paulo (USP).

He is also a member of the Corporate Law and Capital Markets Committees of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) and worked as a partner at the law firm JPN Advogados.

In the Senate hearing, Barroso do Nascimento highlighted, among other points, as important topics for the CVM this year, the regulation of Fiagro, the Brazilian carbon reduction market, crypto-economy, the new securitization framework and the guarantees framework.

The appointment of Barroso do Nascimento to the command of the CVM is in an extra edition of last Friday (3) of the Official Gazette (DOU).
