The actor Joaquin Phoenix 49, revealed that he “encouraged” the singer Lady Gaga 38, “singing badly” in “Joker: Delirium for Two” which opens in theaters next month.
In an interview with Vogue, the actor who plays Arthur Fleck also says that his scene partner, in turn, “encouraged him to sing live” in his scenes. “And I encouraged her to sing badly. I remember asking her to sing without her vibrato. She has a beautiful vibrato — so beautiful. I think she felt naked without it. But as soon as she stepped away from the technique, she unlocked her character’s voice,” he explains.
Gaga also tells the outlet that her trick was to learn to sing like a regular citizen. “Yeah. I worked really hard on it, kind of trying to undo all my technique. I mean, Ally Maine in ‘A Star Is Born’ is a singer and it’s a movie about people who make music. That’s not what this movie is about,” she reveals.
This Wednesday (4), the film received an 11-minute standing ovation after being shown for the first time at Venice Film Festival where it competes for the Golden Lion, the competition’s top prize. The film will be released in theaters on October 3rd and tickets are already available for pre-sale.
In the plot, Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) is institutionalized in Arkham awaiting trial for his crimes as the Joker. While struggling with his dual identity, Arthur not only finds true love, but also finds the music that has always been inside him.
