Jobs increased by 62,100 in November, exceeding expectations

The net change in employment was positive at 62,000 in Canada during the month of November. The data exceeded expectations for a reading of 20,000 and was lower than the 83,600 the previous month. Full-time jobs were up 99,400 and part-time jobs were down by 37,400.

The unemployment rate, expected to remain at 8.9%, fell to 8.5%.

The loonie (CAD) appreciated throughout the market after the data. USD / CAD fell to 1.2833, marking a new low in two years. At the same time, the official US employment report was released.
