The President of the United States, Joe Biden, defended this Tuesday (4) vaccination of children against Covid-19.
“Unvaccinated children are a risk. The vaccinated ones will be saved”, he affirmed.
At a press conference, Biden stressed that the severity of the disease in vaccinated people is much lower compared to those who were not immunized, and asked the population to take all doses, especially with the advancement of Ômicron, which is “very transmissible”.
“And let me be absolutely clear. We have all the vaccines we need to fully vaccinate every American, including the booster shot. So there is no excuse. There is no excuse for anyone not to be vaccinated,” he said, saying that we are experiencing a “non-vaccinated pandemic.”
The US president asked parents who have children who cannot yet receive vaccines to keep their children close to people who have received the immunizations. Still, he also defended that schools must remain open.
He said that the coming weeks will be challenging, and that it is still necessary to use masks and hygiene measures to protect against the coronavirus.
This Monday (3), the United States registered more than one million cases of Covid-19 for the first time.
During the press conference, Joe Biden also said that the government is increasing the number of testing sites for Covid and restocking pharmacies. In addition, the federal administration will launch a website at the end of the month so that tests can be sent to homes free of charge.
Finally, he also commented on purchasing more antiviral pills from Pfizer, but that it may still be necessary to purchase more of this drug.
“I’m directing my team to work with Pfizer to double our order from 10 million to 20 million pills, to be delivered in the coming months,” he said.
