Joe Biden criticizes Donald Trump’s statement about immigrants in the US

United States President Joe Biden criticized Donald Trump’s anti-immigration statements while visiting a company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a state that could be crucial in the 2024 presidential election.

“I don’t believe, as the president, the former president, said again yesterday [terça-feira] that immigrants are polluting, poisoning our blood. The economy and our nation are stronger when we leverage the full range of talent in this nation,” Biden highlighted.

Trump has previously claimed that immigrants are “poisoning” the blood of the US, language that echoes Nazi Germany’s rhetoric of race and eugenics, which has led to criticism condemning political xenophobia and racism.

“Everyone deserves a fair chance,” Biden said in remarks during a visit to the Milwaukee Black Chamber of Commerce to discuss what the White House called a “boom” in small businesses with black owners.

The president repeated a common refrain about the economy, saying that “when the middle class is doing well, we are all doing well.”

A Reuters-Ipsos poll published on December 5 showed that Biden’s popularity was at 40%, close to the lowest level of his presidency, a sign of the challenges he will face in his attempt to be re-elected.
