The USA and their allies in NATO conduct research on explosion in Poland yesterday Tuesday (15/11) which resulted in the loss of two people’s liveshowever initial reports indicate that it may not have been due to a missile launched by the Russiathe American president said today (11/16). Joe Biden.
Mr. Biden made this statement after the extraordinary meeting of the leaders of the G7, the EU and other states in Bali, Indonesia to be discussed the explosions which Poland claimed were caused by Russian-made missiles. On her side Ukraine denounced it as a “terrorist strike” by Russia, as the Ukrainian leader pointed out. Volodymyr Zelensky.
Asked about the estimates that the explosions were due to Russian missiles, the American president said that “There is preliminary information that calls this into question. I don’t want to say it before we’ve completed the investigation, but it’s unlikely, from the trajectory, that (the missile) was launched from Russia – we’ll see though.”.
The US and NATO will conduct a full investigation before acting, added Mr. Biden, who underlined that they also support the efforts of the Polish authorities.
The emergency meeting in Bali was called today by Mr Biden to discuss the incident in the Polish village of Szewodow (southeast), near the border with Ukraine, yesterday evening.
The meeting was attended by the heads of state and government of the USA, France, Germany, Britain, Italy, Canada and Japan, while the leaders of Spain, the Netherlands and the president of the European Council were also present. The participating states, except Japan, are NATO members, such as Poland.
If Moscow is found to be responsible for the missile strike, Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s founding treaty, under which an attack on any member state is considered an attack on all, could be triggered, and consultations could begin on possible military response.
Moscow denied that it was responsible for the explosions in Poland and spoke of “provocations”.
According to the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, last night the ambassador of the Russian Federation in Warsaw was summoned to be asked “detailed explanations”. No details of what was said at that meeting, which ended around “midnight,” have been released.
