Joe Biden to ask Erdogan about Turkish challenges in Eastern Mediterranean

In assuring that Biden will put directly on Recep Tayyip Erdogan the issue of Turkish actions in Eastern Mediterranean US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken made the remarks during a hearing in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Responding to a question from committee chairman Robert Menendez, Mr Blinken acknowledged the senator’s concerns about the violation of international law and described theuric actions deeply problematic.

About her attitude Anchor, Senator Menendez had pointed out that he finds it surprising that “a country that was a NATO ally, that is a NATO ally, and for which we once had expectations, has in its prisons most journalists and lawyers. “Turkey constantly violates international law, threatens Cyprus by violating its EEZ, signs the illegal memorandum with Libya which passes through the EEZ of Greece, has aggressive behavior against Armenia.”.

With this data, Mr. Menendez wondered how the US government is trying to deal with provocative moves by Turkey. For his part, Anthony Blinken replied that President Biden would directly address to his Turkish counterpart the full range of differences that separate Washington from Ankara.

“We share these concerns. We are directly involved with Turkey and I can say with confidence that when Biden sees Erdogan, these (issues) will be at the heart of the agenda. I think that our differences with Turkey, including those you just mentioned, are not secret and in many areas Ankara is not acting as a NATO ally, as it should (for example) with the S400. But beyond that (the issue), the actions he took in the Eastern Mediterranean were profoundly problematic. We were pleased to see Turkey step back from these efforts. including the removal of its ships from the waters which the Cyprus considers the cessation of drilling activities as part of its EEZ. However, we have serious concerns about human rights and the treatment of journalists. “The president will be directly involved in all issues,” he stressed.

The US Secretary of State acknowledged that the US has an interest in keeping Turkey anchored in the West Chariot, as there are many and overlapping interests that cover a wide range of geopolitical issues. Nevertheless, he noted, as broadcast by AMPE, that the differences that separate the two countries must be addressed immediately.
