US President Joe Biden expressed satisfaction for the agreement between Israel and Hamas and foresees the release of dozens of hostages taken by militants of the Palestinian Islamist movement when they launched a raid in southern sectors of Israeli territory on October 7.
The parties agreed – mediated by Qatar, Egypt and the US – to a four-day “humanitarian pause” in hostilities and to release at least 50 hostages held in the Gaza Strip and 150 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons -mainly women and children-, as well as for humanitarian aid to enter the enclave.
Mr. Biden emphasized that he expects the agreement to lead to the return to their homeland of “other American hostages.” He was referring to the release of two American women by Hamas in late October.
“Today’s deal is expected to bring home additional American hostages, and I will not stop until they are all freed.”the US president noted, according to a press release released by the White House.
