Joe Keery, mainly known as Steve Harrington in “Stranger Things ” there is no fans just for TV work, but also on shows and festivals in which it presents itself as Djo .
In an interview to CNN the actor and singer talked about “The Crux” his third career album, released on the 4th, with a strong emotional tone and sound that refers to the 1960s and 1970s.
The project, created during some works as an actor, including filming of the next last season of “Stranger Things” carries shades of loneliness and, at the same time, belonging. “It’s like a diary,” he said. “Writing songs is a form of catharsis, a way to put everything out.”
According to him, his relationships have gained new meanings after spending seasons away from family and friends – and “The Crux” (“the crucial”, in free translation), is an attempt to record this in music.
“I think there is something when we get older that makes you enjoy things differently,” he reflected. “By the circumstances of my life, in recent years, I felt even more grateful [pelos amigos e familiares]it pointed out. One of them is, precisely, his scenemate in the Netflix series, who won a song entirely dedicated to him.
Stranger Things and the past
Track “Charlie’s Garden” Born when Keery was a neighbor of the actor couple Charlie Heaton and NATALIA DYER (Jonathan Byers and Nacy Wheeler ), during filming of the series in Atlanta, USA.
Regarding the sound of the 1960s and 1970s, the result of his “fixation for old compositions” and the choice to record the album entirely in studio, the artist explained that he was “obsessed with the idea of making a studio album, Steely Dan, Beach Boys , AC/DC … I wanted it to be totally centered on the studio and escape as much from the computer as possible. ”
His inspirations also appear in the “cinematic” tone of the album’s look. To CNN, he imagined “The Crux” as a movie similar to Richard Linklater’s “Slacker”, and “Style Robert Altman with a great cast of characters living in a hotel, ”he figured.
“A movie kind of about nothing: at first, someone checks in, and we follow people’s lives there, until, in the end, they just leave.”
Fan connection and possible tour in Brazil
A fan of Tim Maia and Marcos Valle, Djo Djo is touring the United States and Europe, but came to Brazil in 2019 for CCXP, and hopes to return to the country with the new project. “I think it’s something possible . Who knows what will happen? But I hope it is. ”
