The producer Joel Silver , famous for producing major film franchises, was reportedly fired from two Amazon Studios films after accusations of verbal aggression made by two executives at the production company. The information is from the magazine Variety.
According to the VarietyJoel would be out of the remake of “Matador de Aluguel”, with Jake Gyllenhaal, and the adaptation “Play Dirty”, based on the literary series written by Donald E. Westlake between 1962 and 2008, starring Mark Wahlberg.
“Matador de Aluguel”, however, is already finished and should premiere in 2024. Joel Silver will not be part of the publicity or marketing process, but should still receive credit for production.
The producer reportedly “reprimanded” Sue Kroll, head of marketing at Amazon, and Courtnenay Valenti, the president, harshly for “creative differences”.
According to sources close to Silver interviewed by Varietyhe rejects the accusation of verbal aggression and believes he is suffering “retaliation” from the studio after it refused to finish a film using artificial intelligence during the Hollywood strike, which took place between July and November this year.
In “Matador de Alguel”, a film inspired by the 1989 classic, Jake Gyllenhaal plays a former UFC fighter who is hired as a security guard at a roadside establishment in the Florida Keys archipelago, where he learns the hard way that his new home is not so paradisiacal.
Joel Silver is best known for producing the “Matrix”, “Sherlock Holes”, “Lethal Weapon”, “Die Hard” franchises, and the films “The Predator”, “Speed Racer”, and “The Orphan”.
