Mutual accusations of violence

In court, Amber Heard’s attorney Ben Rottenborn said that his client has been subjected to domestic abuse by Depp which “has taken many forms”: physical, emotional, verbal and psychological. He added that Amber “also suffered sexual violence at the hands of Depp. You will hear the details of the violence suffered in the most explicit and terrifying terms. You will hear it directly from her. He will go up on the stand“. A spokesperson for Depp denied the allegation, calling it “made up.” In audio recordings played by Johnny Depp’s legal team, Amber Heard is then heard admitting to hitting her husband: “You weren’t punched, you were hit. I’m sorry I hit you like this, but I didn’t punch you“. And again: «I’m not sitting here complaining, am I? You, on the other hand, do. This is the difference between you and me. You are a fucking baby. You are such a child. Get the fuck up, Johnny. ‘ To Depp – who he said several times under oath of never hitting Amber or any other woman – was also asked about a case dating back to December 2015, when he allegedly headbutted Amber, who then bruised her face. He vehemently denied that he intentionally hit her and spoke of an accident as he tried to restrain her. And again, a video played by Amber Heard’s legal team shows Depp slamming closet doors in their kitchen, and in an audio, the actor is heard threatening to cut himself with a knife as Amber begs him to stop.

The severed finger

Another controversial point in this trial relates to the infamous quarrel between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard in Australia in March 2015while he was shooting Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. On that occasion the middle finger of the actor’s right hand was severed at the tip. Johnny states it happened when she hit him with a bottle of vodkaAmber denies. In the courtroom, Depp’s team showed bloody photos of the finger immediately after the injury that night and in the hospital, when Depp told doctors that his hand was trapped in a door. At the trial, the star claimed to have lied at the time to keep Amber out of trouble. Also in the courtroom Depp raised his “mangled” finger calling it “funny”. The star’s lawyer then brought to court a tape of a telephone conversation that took place after Heard publicly accused her ex-husband of violence. She tells him she seriously feared she would kill her, he replies having lost a piece of your finger and to have received a can on the nose. At that point Heard says, “Tell the people it was an equal fight and see what the jury and the judge will think. Tell the world, Johnny, tell it. “I too, Johnny Depp, am a victim of domestic violence, and that was an equal fight”, and see if people believe it and take your side. “

I made them on the bed

In the courtroom Johnny Depp recalled a quarrel started because he was arrived late at Amber’s 30th birthday party, in 2016, shortly before the divorce. She had taken it very badly and, according to the actor’s account, had also hit him. At which he had left home. The next day he had sent his bodyguard home to get some things while she was not there. The bodyguard had sent him a photo showing human feces piled on his side of the bed. Amber, at the time, tried to defend herself by blaming their dogs.

Depp’s shocking sentences

During the trial several private messages written by Johnny Depp and Amber Heard were read in the courtroom. In one of these, dated October 2016, the actor wrote to his friend Isaac Baruch, referring to his ex-wife: “Let’s hope the corpse is decomposing in the fucking trunk of a Honda Civic! ” During his cross-examination, Depp said, “I’m not proud of the language I used.” Among the other messages sent by Depp and brought to court as evidence, there is one in which he writes: “Let’s drown it before we burn it!!! “.

Violent childhood

Both Depp and older sister Christi Dembrowski recounted in the courtroom the violence their deceased mother, Betty Sue Palmer, inflicted on their dad, John Sr., who is now 84 years old. “When Betty Sue, my mother, attacked my fathernaturally in front of us children, she didn’t care – he remained surprisingly stoic and always swallowed the pain she gave us, ”the actor revealed. Explaining that he continued the marriage with Amber even when the relationships had by now deteriorated «because my father remained with my mother despite everything … And I did not want to fail. I wanted to try and make my marriage work. Because the Amber Heard that I knew for the first year, year and a half, was not that suddenly become an enemy“.

Drugs with friends

During his interrogation, which began on April 19 and ended on 26, Johnny Depp admitted he used alcohol and drugs to “anesthetize himself from the ghosts” that haunted him. He said he became addicted to opioids after an injury on set, but he did detoxified before he started dating Amber. Depp later confirmed that he used drugs with famous friends, such as the actor Paul Bettany and the musician Marilyn Manson. During cross-examination of Amber’s attorney, a message was read that Depp sent to Bettany in May 2014: “I have to get out of this alcohol thing for good, my dear, I’d been drinking all night before hitting Amber“.

The psychologist’s judgment

Shannon Curry, the clinical and forensic psychologist commissioned by Depp’s legal team to evaluate Amber Heard on the basis of files, documents and two meetings with the actress, said in court that Amber Heard shows no signs of post-traumatic stress disorder from alleged abuse suffered by the ex-husband. According to the psychologist, Amber shows signs of “borderline personality disorder and histrionic personality disorder “which could lead you to” pretend “ a post-traumatic stress disorder and showing oneself as a victim by exaggerating or falsifying symptoms. Shannon Curry’s credibility, however, was undermined by her admitting that she once had dinner and cocktails with Depp.

The trial in Virginia, which began two weeks ago, will likely go on for another month. However it turns out, the divorce between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard will be remembered as one of the worst in history. With probably irreparable consequences for the image of both …
