Johns Hopkins professor re-uploaded Tornado Cash code to GitHub

The scientist claims that the Tornado Cash code is needed for educational purposes and is sure that the GitHub administration will not delete the content again.

Johns Hopkins University computer science professor Mathew Green has re-uploaded the Tornado Cash cryptocurrency mixing service code to GitHub, weeks after the platform was suspended due to alleged money laundering facilitation.

“My students have created amazing projects from this source code. Loss or reduction in accessibility will harm the scientific and technical community, ”explained the educator.

Even though Github has previously removed the Tornado Cash code. Green defends his decision to use the platform, stating that it is the most widely used software distribution website in the world and the perfect place to host this repository.

The professor stated that he has copies of the code, which he will also publish on other platforms if GitHub resorts to deletion again. But, according to Green, the platform will not mind re-publishing the code.

Recall that at the beginning of the month, the US Department of the Treasury imposed sanctions against Tornado Cash due to alleged assistance in money laundering – the platform addresses and many Ethereum addresses were blacklisted. In addition, a few days later, the Dutch police arrested one of the alleged developers of Tornado Cash.

Matthew Green has criticized the United States government for pushing through these sanctions as other crypto exchanges have suffered damage.

Meanwhile, U.S. Congressman Tom Emmer said he believes the sanctions against Tornado Cash are unprecedented and that their impact could have a negative impact on privacy and innovation.
