Johnson & Johnson: Risks of failing to meet vaccine commitments to EU

Failure to meet its commitments to supply vaccines to the European Union in the second quarter of 2021 Johnson & Johnson as millions of doses have been banned in Europe for safety reasons, a European Commission spokesman said.

THE European Medicines Agency announced last week that batches of the company’s vaccine shipped to Europe from a US factory would not be used precautionarily due to concerns about an infection.

The EMA said in a statement that 17 million doses would not be used in the Union.

“Following the ban on these batches, the company is not expected to be able to supply 55 million installments by the end of this quarter”, a spokesman for the Commission told Reuters.

The European Union is said to have ordered a total of 200 million doses vaccine of J&J, 55 million of which were to be delivered by the end of June. The company has so far supplied about 12 million installments.

“Johnson & Johnson remains committed to delivering 200 million doses of its Covid-19 vaccine to the European Union, Norway and Iceland and will continue to inform the European Commission and Member States in a timely manner as it adjusts delivery times.” , points out in a statement a company representative.
