“Johnson & Johnson vaccine in April in EU and Germany”

The Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which has now been approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA), will arrive in the European Union and Germany in mid-April at the earliest, according to Federal Health Minister Jens Spann.

“The Johnson & Johnson vaccine will be delivered to the European Union and therefore to Germany as early as mid-April. “The European Commission is currently in talks with the manufacturer on when the EU’s turn will come,” he told ARD, the first public service broadcaster.

Regarding the de facto ban on the export of the vaccine from the USA, Span said: “In the last twelve months we have had to find again and again that some products have not left the USA. This is problematic between us, in the transatlantic partnership. We have to talk about it and deal with it. “

“Overall, more vaccines need to be produced in the European Union and also in Germany. “It’s one of the things we work on every day,” he said.

Regarding the involvement of (funded) family doctors in vaccinations, the Christian Democrat (CDU) politician clarified that “there must first be sufficient doses of vaccines so that they can also be vaccinated. It is possible that up to 70,000 clinics will take part in the vaccinations. If every doctor gave 20 doses a week, we would already need 1.4 million doses. However, GPs should and should be vaccinated. “I estimate the start date will be mid-April,” he said.

Finally, the Federal Minister for Health promised that “the flow of vaccinations in Germany will soon improve. 7% of Germans were vaccinated in two months, the next 7% will be vaccinated faster, it will take a month. “In May, June and July, there will be ten million vaccinations a week in clinics.”
