Johnson: Those who end up in the ICU are those who have not taken a booster dose

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson today called on citizens to be vaccinated, noting that the vast majority of patients treated with covid-19 in ICUs are not vaccinated with the booster dose.

The prime minister also said that citizens should celebrate New Year’s Eve with prudence after his decision not to impose stricter restrictions to curb the spread of the highly contagious Omicron variant of the coronavirus.

“I’m sorry to say that, but the vast majority of people who end up in the ICUs of our hospitals are people who have not received the booster dose,” the prime minister told reporters during a visit to a vaccination center.

“I have spoken to doctors who say that the number (of those who have not received the third dose) who are in the ICU is up to 90%. “milder (the Omicron variant) than the Delta,” Johnson commented.

“I think everyone should have fun on New Year’s Eve but in a logical and prudent way. Take a test, think about ventilation, think about others but above all do the third dose,” he said.

Britain has a record number of new cases and 129,471 new infections were reported yesterday due to the highly contagious variant of the Omicron virus.

There is also unofficial information about the difficulty in obtaining diagnostic tests.

Although the number of day hospitalizations has increased, it remains well below the one at the beginning of the year with about 1,000 admissions daily compared to 4,000 in January.
