“Ukraine can and will win. But he needs our support to make it happen. “Now is not the time to leave Ukraine.”says the British Prime Minister in a statement issued, one day before the start of the three-day summit of the “Group of Seven” (USA, France, Britain, Germany, Italy, Canada and Japan) in southern Germany.

The British government is “ready to provide $ 525 million” to Ukrainein the form of loan guarantees from the World Bank, Downing Street said, amid fears that Ukraine may face a shortfall in funding in the autumn.

This will bring to about $ 1.8 billion the total financial and humanitarian support that London provides to the country.

Boris Johnson, who is facing problems in his country’s domestic political scene, has put himself at the forefront of Western support. Of Ukraine against the Russian invasion that began in February. He has been to Kyiv twice and London has provided early lethal weapons to the Ukrainian army.

The G7 heads of state and government are meeting in southern Germany for three days starting today, followed by the NATO summit in Madrid.

“Any sign of fatigue or a weakening of Western support for Ukraine will work directly in President Putin,” Downing Street said.

A spokesman for Boris Johnson stressed that after four months of war, this support must enter a “new phase” in terms of its type.

“This is what the prime minister will ask for at the G7 and NATO summits, encouraging his counterparts to increase economic, military and political support for Ukraine. “At the same time, we need to step up sanctions against Putin and his allies so that they can feel the cost of their brutality.”he added.
