“Joker: Delirium for Two” grossed US$121.1 million (around R$660.1 million) in the week of its theatrical release according to data from Box Office Mojo. The production continues the award-winning title from 2019, which surpassed US$1 billion (around R$5.4 billion) at the box office and had an opening of US$139 (around R$758.3 million).
In the United States, the film opened on October 4th and reached US$40 million (about R$218 million) in three days. Around the world, revenue was raised at US$81.1 million (around R$441.9 million), with records starting on the first day of the month.
Also according to Box Office Mojo, the film grossed US$4.7 million (around R$25.6 million) in Brazil. “Joker: Delirium for Two” premiered in Brazilian territory last Thursday (3).
Despite being one of the most anticipated titles of the year, “Joker: Delirium for Two” was far below other major releases such as “Deadpool & Wolverine” ($483 million), “Inside Out 2” ($295 million), “Dune: Part 2” ($178 million) and “The Ghosts Still Entertain” ($147 million).
Following “Joker” (2019), Arthur Fleck, the Joker, is on trial for the crimes committed in the first film. Admitted to the Elizabeth Arkham Asylum for the Criminally Insane, in Gotham, he meets and falls in love with Harley Quinn. Together they embark on a journey of music and passion.
The plot stars Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga . Names like Zazie Beetz (“Atlanta”), Steve Coogan (“Philomena”), Ken Leung (“Industry”), Catherine Keener (“Capote”), Harry Lawtey (“The Pale Blue Eye”) and Brendan Gleeson (“The Banshees of Inisherin”) make up the cast.
