The leader of the Islamist-dominated armed coalition that seized power in Syria, Abu Mohammed al-Jolani, today called on the country’s residents to take to the streets en masse to celebrate the “victory of the revolution”. In a video, al-Jolani, who now uses his real name Ahmad al-Sara, “congratulates the Syrian people for the victory of the revolution” and calls on the population “to take to the streets to express their joy”. On the Telegram network the leader of the radical Sunni Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) appeared wearing a gray vest and white shirt. He will later participate in the weekly Friday prayer at the famous Umayyad Mosque in Damascus. After an 11-day offensive, a rebel coalition dominated by HTS ousted President Bashar al-Assad on Sunday, who fled to Russia.
