The mother of Jon Bon Jovi Carol A. Bongiovi, died on Tuesday (9), just three days before her 84th birthday. The news was confirmed by the 62-year-old singer through a statement released by People magazine.
“Our mother was a force of nature, her spirit and positive attitude shaped this family. She will be greatly missed,” the message read.
The publication added that the star’s mother passed away at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, New Jersey, in the United States.
Carol, a former Playboy Playmate, met her husband, John Bongiovi Sr., while they were both serving in the United States Marine Corps. She was the founder of Bon Jovi’s fan club and ran several other businesses while raising her family in New Jersey.
In addition to Jon and the singer’s four children, Carol leaves behind her husband, her other two sons, Anthony and Matthew, and their respective families.
The “Always” singer has always praised the unconditional support he received from his parents, who encouraged him to fight for his dreams in the music industry.
In a recent interview with Big Issue, Bon Jovi stated: “Even if you weren’t really good at your craft, if you believed you were, you could improve. As I’ve grown up, I’ve realised that was a great gift I got from my parents. The artist added that despite the support, his parents insisted that he fulfill his academic responsibilities.
“They always supported me, which looking back was amazing. Because I could get home at two in the morning and still have to be at school by eight. They just said, ‘Get to school on time, you know it’s your responsibility, but chase your dream.’”
