Jordan: Prince Hamza collaborates with “foreign parties” in a conspiracy

The Deputy Prime Minister Jordan Ayman Safadi said today that King Abdullah’s half-brother and former Crown Prince Hamza had been collaborating with “foreign parties” in a conspiracy to destabilize the country and had been under the microscope for some time.

Authorities intercepted communications between Hamza and foreign agents over a timetable for steps to undermine Jordan’s security, Safadi told a news conference.

The communications they monitored included one where a foreign intelligence service contacted Prince Hamza’s wife to arrange for the couple to flee Jordan, he said.

“Initial investigations revealed that these activities and moves had reached a level that directly affected security and stability in the country, but His Majesty decided that it was better to speak directly to Prince Hamza, to manage this within family in order to avoid the possibility of being exploited “, he noted.

In addition, two senior officials worked with Prince Hamza to undermine the kingdom.

As Ayman Safadi explained, these two persons, as well as 14-16 other people were arrested.

“The security forces have been monitoring for a long time the activities and movements of Prince Hamza bin Hussein, Sherif Hassan bin Zayed and Bassem Awadalah and other figures who aimed at the security and stability of the country,” he said.

In a video sent to the BBC by the Crown Prince’s lawyer until 2004, Hamza says chief of staff went to his home in the morning and informed him that “he is not allowed to go out” and communicate with others or meet with them.
