ConsenSys CEO Joseph Lubin claims that the MetaMask cryptocurrency wallet developed by the company does not monetize user IP address data.
Ethereum co-founder and ConsenSys CEO Joseph Lubin, in response to the reaction of MetaMask users to the privacy policy update, said that user IP address data is used solely for routing.
Lubin said that MetaMask broadcasts the user’s IP address data to the remote procedure call (RPC) provider. By default, this is the Infura infrastructure company, which is responsible for the technical implementation of the data exchange management procedure between the user and the blockchain.
Lubin explained that Infura and ConsenSys do not monetize or use this data. At the same time, Infura is looking for a technical solution that will minimize the collection of user data, including anonymization methods and the complete removal of temporarily collected data.
In addition, the head of ConsenSys noted that the cryptocurrency community is actively working to create decentralized RPC providers, and MetaMask users can specify their application as an alternative RPC or their own blockchain node.
The fact that ConsenSys monitors the activity of wallets of MetaMask users became known this week. In addition to identity-related data, the company tracks contact information, profile information, and other user data, according to the company.
