It was April 15, 1912 when the British ocean liner Titanic was wrecked during its maiden voyage, due to a collision with an iceberg that occurred during the night. We saw it on the big screen (and reviewed millions of times on TV) in 1997 with a very young couple formed by Kate Winslet and Leonardo Di Caprio.
Now, however, some lucky rich will be able to go and see that wreck live more than 3800 meters above the sea floor thanks to a tour in the abyss. The first marine exploration has just started with researchers, marine biologists and forty people who have paid 150,000 dollars to participate in the mission, money that will partly finance the expedition.
Each mission is 10 days, including 8 days at sea.
OceanGate Expeditions organized this mission with a double purpose: to analyze the corrosion level of the structure to provide scientific data useful for research on other wrecks, but at the same time to collect material to be used in films, docuseries and videogames and show the world the first images . The age of the passengers varies from 28 to 72 years, most of them come from the United States and the United Kingdom, some from Australia, Canada and Germany.
The program includes a journey of about forty hours to get to the point where the ocean liner sank. The dives will be done using a small submarine made of carbon fiber, able to withstand the strong pressure in depth. Six people will participate in each trip who, through the bow, transparent and spherical, will be able to see the wreck. Ninety minutes for the descent, three hours for the patrol and another ninety minutes for the ascent.
Once in place, they will spend about three hours exploring the wreck, focusing mainly on the bow section, the most impressive part of the wreck. Gliding over the ship’s deck, powerful external lights will illuminate the cavern where the famous Titanic stairway once stood.

Mission specialists are city adventurers and scientists who support the expedition through various sub-nautical and oceanographic roles. Receiving ongoing training and education, the lucky travelers will participate as active crew members: sonar and laser scanner operation, monitoring and communications, observation and documentation, photography and videography.
Each crew member will have access to an individual table to monitor sonar images, track the submarine’s position or view all 4 external cameras for a 180 ° view of their surroundings.
While these opportunities require no experience, you must have, in addition to $ 150,000, other physical requirements.
