The inspiration came during his first convalescence, immediately after the operation: «At that time I was listening to the audiobook of The Count of Monte Cristo – says Jovanotti – a novel that I read about fifteen years ago and which fascinated me. The audiobook, read by Andrea Giordanakept me company for days.” Jova identified with his protagonist, a young man who at a certain point loses everything he owns, and finds himself locked in a cell intent on building his path to rebirth: «For me, writing is always an exercise, a way to process what that I live, and the text was born from that feeling of loss and revenge. Then one day Dardust he made me listen to a melody on the piano in his small studio in Milan. I tried to adapt the lyrics to his music, and I immediately realized that it worked. In just a few minutes we brought the song to life, but as always happens, the finishing work took months.”
