JPY flat against USD and lag

The Japanese yen (JPY) is weak, falling marginally against the US dollar (USD) and quoting around the midpoint of its range since the beginning of April, Shaun Osborne and Eric Theoret, Eric Theoret, strategists of Scotiabank FX.

Concerns about the aggressive BOJ position

“The lower relative performance of the JPY in front of its G4 peers is remarkable, since both the EUR and the GBP have reached new maximums in several years and their profits have been approximately twice the 1% increase of the JPY in the last week.”

“The prospects for the policy of the central banks in relation have been somewhat less favorable for the YEN, since market participants have had to deal with a continuous reassessment of the perspectives for the BOJ and, specifically, questions about their commitment to the tightening of politics, since they tied rates of rates to the result of commercial conversations between the US and Japan.”
