Juanes remembers how his sister died after spending 27 years in a coma

Despite being a singer of international stature and having been awarded 27 Latin Grammys throughout his career, the Colombian Juan Esteban Aristizábal Vásquez, better known by his stage name Juanes, is an artist who has been characterized by keeping his life privately kept out of the media and out of the spotlight, but she recently opened up in an interview and talked about some tough things she’s been through.

In an interview for Yordi Rosado’s YouTube program that premiered on January 8, the 50-year-old singer-songwriter talked about how hard and sad it was for his entire family to see how his sister remained in a coma for 27 years, a medical condition in which that was left after complications in the delivery of his daughter.

Among all the anecdotes that the interpreter of Black shirt recounted during the talk, one of the things that she described as something horrible in her life was the tragic story of her sister Luz Cecilia, who, during the delivery of her daughter Mariana, presented an internal hemorrhage in which she lost a lot of blood and Due to her complicated blood type, the hospital did not have units for her, so she went a long time without receiving a transfusion.

Saying that he was excited because he would be an uncle and that it was also his parents’ first granddaughter, Juanes said that both he and his brother have the O-negative blood type, the blood group to which his sister belonged, for which they both donated their blood in order to save her sister’s life, but between everything that happened, 20 minutes had already elapsed, so Luz Cecilia remained in a vegetative state for 27 years.

What happened to my sister was in 1994 or 1996. My sister Luz Cecilia was pregnant and the day of the delivery was a little late. I had come from the university, I was with my girlfriend at that time. When I enter that room I see it with the lights off, with my mother and my aunt crying, with the bed made. I asked what happened and they told me that Luz had a complication during the delivery and she was in the emergency room.

Unfortunately, after this complication during childbirth, Juanes’s sister did not have the opportunity to meet her daughter and given the serious state of health of Luz Cecilia, the artist’s family was uncertain as to what would happen to her, but, above all, , they had no idea of ​​the seriousness of his condition. For this reason, she assures that she received many blood transfusions that altered her physical appearance.
