The next edition of the Festival “Parallel Universe ” in Brazil was confirmed after facing security challenges in Israel. The long-awaited rave party, created by Juarez “Swarup” Petrillo, father of DJ Alok, is scheduled to take place in Itúberá, Bahia, from December 27, 2023 to January 3, 2024.
“These last few days have been difficult for me. But the purpose of Universo Paralello has always been peace, love, respect for diversity and this year we even thought about giving up because we thought we had nothing to celebrate”, began Petrillo in a video shared on social media.
“I remembered that Bob Marley once said that those who do evil never rest for a day. So, we cannot rest in order to promote good. That’s why I invite everyone to come together this year as a manifesto for peace. You are all very welcome!”, he stated when announcing the confirmation of the event.
Attack on Israel
Alok discovered on the Internet that his father, also DJ Juarez Petrillo, was in Israel during attacks by the Hamas group.
The rave, which took place in the kibbutz Re’im region, meters from the Gaza Strip, was the first edition in Israel of the electronic music festival “SUPERNOVA Universo Paralello Edition” – created 23 years ago, in Brazil, by Alok’s parents . Petrillo was scheduled to participate in the event, which ended with more than 260 deaths.
Alok clarified in a video shared on his Instagram that his father was not a producer of the festival, explaining that the brand was licensed to an organizer in Israel.
“Unfortunately, in the midst of all this, fake news is circulating that my father was responsible and producer of the festival, which is not true, as you can see in the international media. Don’t associate my father with that,” says Alok.
“My father is the creator of a festival called Universo Paralelo, which has been taking place in Brazil for over 20 years. It is the largest alternative art and culture festival in Latin America. It is a festival known worldwide, and many foreign tourists attend the festival”, said the DJ.
In addition to Brazil and Israel, the festival has already taken place in India, France, Argentina, Spain, Portugal, Thailand and Mexico. Apart from Alok, Swarup is also Bhaskar’s father.
