A federal judge extended Donald Trump government action block against the US Agency for International Development (USAID) for another week after an extensive audience on Thursday (13).
The case is one of the first most significant tests for Trump about reducing the federal workforce and closing of an agency.
Judge Carl Nichols of the DC District Court said that a court order will remain in force until February 21 that reintegrates Usaid workers that the government previously put on paid license.
In addition, the decision prevents the government from taking other measures that could potentially harm USAID workers, especially those in countries that have high safety risks.
Nichols, who was appointed from Trump in 2019 to the lower court, has not yet decided to allow the government’s plans to dismantle the agency or block indefinitely that it happens.
He pointed out that he will make a decision on this issue by the end of next week, although his decision is probably contested later.
Other cases trying to appeal against USAID are still in progress in court.
