Judge Paulo Torres Pereira da Silva, murdered on Thursday night (19), in Jaboatão dos Guararapes, in Greater Recife, was shot in the back of the head and had no property stolen during the incident.
The information was released by the Pernambuco police, which is investigating the case and says it has not ruled out any hypothesis of motivation for the crime.

According to the police, relatives confirmed that the magistrate had the habit of traveling from his home, in the neighborhood of Candeias, in Jaboatão, to Praia do Paiva, in Cabo de Santo Agostinho, a neighboring municipality, to walk.
Therefore, the suspicion is that he was returning from one of these walks when he was approached by the criminals, just less than 300 meters away from his residence, where he lived with his wife and children.
According to the family, the vehicle was not armored and Paulo Torres used to drive with the windows open.
“As soon as we arrived at the scene, we noticed that a vehicle had collided with a wall and we identified the presence of a dead man, with a single gunshot mark on his head, located behind his left ear”, explained delegate Euricélia Nogueira, from the Federal Police Force. Homicide Task of the Department of Homicide and Personal Protection (DHPP).
“We isolated the area, called in forensics and searched for security cameras in the surrounding area,” he added.
According to the family, the judge did not carry physical documents at the time of the crime, as he was using a digital version of his National Driving License (CNH). In the car, a Honda model HRV, Paulo’s cell phone, a towel and a bottle of water were found.
Based on witness reports, the Civil Police obtained information that four people had approached the magistrate.
“We interviewed witnesses and collected some images from security cameras located around the site. There are reports that the criminals were wearing surgical masks, but this has not yet been confirmed”, said delegate Euricélia Nogueira.
“The complete dynamics of the crime have not yet been clarified, but we are working to make this happen as soon as possible. All images from the site are being collected for analysis,” she concluded.
In a statement, the Pernambuco Court of Justice (TJPE) deeply regretted the judge’s death and announced that it is collaborating with the police authorities to quickly clarify the crime and hold those responsible accountable.
The Public Ministry of Pernambuco (MPPE) also expressed its support for the authorities in the search for justice and expressed solidarity with the magistrate’s family and friends.
The president of the Federal Supreme Court and the National Council of Justice, Luís Roberto Barroso, issued a statement of condolence, stating that the National Council of Justice is monitoring developments in the case to ensure that justice is served. The institution expressed its solidarity with the judge’s family and friends.
