For over 40 years, the retired judge José Eduardo Franco dos Reis 67, used the false name of Edward Albert Lancelot Dodd Canterbury Caterham Wickfield . The farce came to light when, in October 2024, he tried to get a duplicate of his identity wallet using the fictional name.
The Civil Police investigation, through the Ricardo Gumbleton Daunt Identification Institute (IIRGD), found that both names had different records in the system, but had the same biometrics. A papilloscopic report confirmed that it was the same person.
It was found that José Eduardo Franco dos Reis obtained several documents using false identity, including Double Electoral Registration, Double Registration in the Register of Individuals (CPF) and a passport which would have been used to leave the country after the discovery of fraud. The fictional personality would have been created in September 1980. For over four decades, he used a identity for 40 years used a name that never existed
The Civil Police came to contact the United Kingdom National Crime, which reported there were no records for any of the names in British systems.

Using the false name, he studied right in University of São Paulo (USP) in the 1980s and later joined the São Paulo judiciary, holding prominent positions in the Court of Justice of São Paulo and even coordinated the regional core of the Paulista School of Magistracy in Serra Negra (SP).

THE Public Prosecution Service of São Paulo (MPSP) denounced José Eduardo Franco dos Reis by use of false document and ideological falsehood. The court accepted the complaint and made him a defendant. In an administrative decision, the president of the TJ-SP determined the suspension of retirement payment of the magistrate.
The complaint points out that he created the figure of Edward Albert Lancelot Dodd Canterbury Caterham Wickfield As a different personality, without abandoning the real identity, maintaining double documentation.
The case continues under justice . The reasons that led the magistrate to use false identity for so long are still unknown.
