Bolsonaro goes to Sao Paulo
President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and the Minister of Regional Development, Rogério Marinho, are due to visit the regions affected by rain in the state of São Paulo today. They will meet with the mayors of the most affected cities at Francisco Morato’s city hall, in the metropolitan region of São Paulo. So far, at least 24 people have died and rescue teams continue to search for the missing.
Judiciary recess
The Judiciary resumes activities this Tuesday (1st) after the end of the recess. At the Federal Supreme Court (STF), the requirement for a vaccine passport is among the agendas of the sessions for the first half of this year, in addition to responsibility for offensive content on the internet and the clean record law. The Legislature should also resume activities today.
Alliance between Podemos and Citizenship
Podemos, the party of presidential candidate Sergio Moro, approved last Monday the opening of talks for a possible federation with Cidadania, a party that also evaluates composition with the PSDB. Moro’s objective is to seek convergences to enable a “third way” candidacy, involving other parties. Cidadania’s pre-candidate is Senator Alessandro Vieira, from Sergipe. The PSDB appointed the governor of São Paulo, João Doria.
Vaccination suspended in Rio
The city of Rio de Janeiro had to suspend the vaccination of children without comorbidities against Covid-19 due to the lack of doses. The application of vaccines for the age group between 5 and 11 years will be resumed when the city hall receives new batches from the Ministry of Health. In the capital of Rio de Janeiro, about 25% of children between this age have already received the first dose.
HIV vaccine
The experimental vaccine against HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, was administered yesterday to the first patients. The test, titled IAVI G002, is being conducted by pharmaceutical company Moderna, which also makes immunizations against Covid-19, in partnership with the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI), a non-profit scientific research organization. In tests carried out in the last year, the vaccine produced an immune response in 97% of the participants.
