This Monday (04), Julia Roberts spoke about the death of her ex-boyfriend Matthew Perry, Chandler from “Friends”. The statement was given in an interview with the portal Entertainment Tonight.
“The sudden passing of someone so young is heartbreaking,” said the actress. “I think, you know, it just helps all of us appreciate what we have and move forward in a positive way in the best way possible.”
Julia and Matthew dated for about three months in the 1990s, around the time Roberts appeared as a guest star on “Friends.” Furthermore, Matthew died right on the day Julia Roberts turned 56.
In his book “Friends, Love and That Terrible Thing: The memories of the Friends star”, Matthew makes mention of the brief relationship he had with Julia.
“I sent her three dozen red roses and the card said, ‘The only thing more exciting than the prospect of you doing the show is that I finally have an excuse to send you flowers,’” he said in his book. He even mentions that it felt like she “was put on this planet to make the world smile, and now, in particular, me. I was smiling like a 15-year-old on our first date.”
Still in an interview with ET, the actress said she had “all good thoughts and feelings” about her time on the “Friends” set. In her cameo, Julia Roberts played the role of a former classmate of Chandler’s character and ends up getting involved with him “as revenge”.
The new film starring Julia Roberts, “The World After Us”, on Netflix, will have recurring references to “Friends”. The film premieres next Friday (08) in Brazil.
