Positive to coronavirus confirmed to be the founder of WikiLeaks Julian Assange who is being held at Belmars Prison near London.
“He tested positive for covid on Saturday, the day thousands of people demonstrated in his support“said his wife Stella Assange speaking to the PA agency.
She, as reported by the Athens News Agency, added that she is “obviously worried” about Julian’s health, clarifying that he has been put in isolation in his cell.
On Saturday (8/10) thousands of people formed a human chain around the British Parliament demanding a halt to the United States’ extradition effortin order to be tried for criminal offenses by US courts.
In the US, 51-year-old Assange is accused of 18 crimes, including espionage, because he posted secret diplomatic and military documents on the WikiLeaks website. His lawyers have appealed to Britain’s High Court, asking that the decision to extradite him to the US be overturned.
Assange was arrested by British police in 2019 after taking refuge for nearly seven years in the Ecuadorian embassy building in London. Since then he has been held in Belmars maximum security prison.
