“Jupiter Ascending”, this Friday’s Afternoon Session, was inspired by “The Odyssey”

The programming of the Afternoon session this Friday (12), at 3:25 pm, the film “Jupiter Ascending “, released in 2015. The fiction portrays the story of the descendant of a lineage of kings of the universe, Jupiter Jones (Mila Kunis ), who receives a visit from an ex-military man who will protect her at all costs, Caine (Channing Tatum ).

Directed by sisters Lilly and Lana Wachowski, who created “The Matrix” in 1999, the film mixes science fiction, Greek classics and fairy tales. The film is partly based on Homer’s “The Odyssey,” according to Lana in an interview with The Wall Street Journal in June 2015.

“I was reading ‘The Odyssey,’ and it was making me super emotional. The whole concept of these almost spiritual journeys and how you change. And I had changed,” he said.

In the film, unaware that she is the next occupant of the position of Queen of the Universe, Jupiter continues her life normally as a maid in the United States, the country where she lives after moving from Russia.

Everything changes when Caine arrives on Earth with the mission of taking it to take his place. In “Jupiter Ascending”, humans are at the bottom of the evolutionary ladder.

The cast also includes Sean Bean (“Game of Thrones”), Douglas Booth (“The Dirt: As Confessões do Mötley Crüe”, and Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne, the fictional villain.

According to Box Office Mojo, the film grossed just over $47 million in the US and nearly $184 million in total worldwide.
