Jurists point out ways to combat structural and institutional racism

In a week marked by Black Consciousness Day in Brazil, the Senate approved a bill that equates the crimes of racial slur and racism, and a commission of black jurists created by the Chamber of Deputies elaborated a series of proposals to fight discrimination that affects the black population of the country.

The initiatives include the creation of a permanent observatory against racism and the definition of objective targets for quotas in the labor market and for the titling of quilombola lands. Jurists warn that improving laws helps to combat institutional racism, but society also needs to face the structural face of the problem.

In this episode of E Tem Mais, Carol Nogueira presents an overview of the attempts to improve legislation to combat racial inequality in Brazil. To point out the paths and challenges of confronting racism in Brazil, federal public defender Rita Cristina Oliveira, a member of the group that presented the proposals to the National Congress, participates in this episode.
