Jury Chechi: “At fifty-one I train like this”

Jury Chechi is one of the most famous athletes in the world. His performances in the rings have enchanted millions of people, his tenacity has been an example to many young people. Today, after the competitive activity, he keeps himself in perfect shape thanks to a training system that is the basis of gymnastics.

“Although everyone asks me what the secret is to keep myself as when I was in full business, the truth is that I am far from that physical conditionHe explains. “From the moment I decided to say enough, my life has obviously changed, but I have never neglected my body.

I continue to train with great commitment, even if now the goal is no longer to win an Olympics, but only to feel good ».

To do so, Jury chose to go back to the origins of the sport that gave him so much satisfaction and to which he really gave everything, training without ever sparing himself. «I started practicing the calisthenics, a discipline that is the basis of gymnastics. I don’t use weights, free body activity is the best for maintaining muscle tone and good elasticity ».

Calisthenics involves pull-ups, rings and parallels. “I understand a little”, says Chechi with a smile.

In this pandemic time, playing sports has been very difficult, especially for those who are not professionals. «The situation is very serious. The agonists have hardly suffered the closure of the gyms as they were allowed to use them even during the worst periods and in the “red areas”. It is going much worse, however, to everyone else. The padlocks on the gates of sports centers and structures where sports are practiced indoors worry me a lot. This pandemic, in addition to all the damage it is doing, will unfortunately increase the number of people who in the coming months and years will be affected by diseases linked to the lack of physical activity ».

The arrival of summer and the vaccines give some respite. On 24 May the gyms reopen. «Sport is essential for the growth of children. It shapes the body and strengthens the character. It is really time to go back, safely, to the gyms ».
