The Justice denied, this Monday (19), the request for freedom for Ronnie Lessa and Élcio Queiroz, accused of murdering the former councilor Marielle Franco in March 2018, in Rio de Janeiro.
The decision is by Judge Gustavo Gomes Kalil, of the 4th Criminal Court of Rio de Janeiro, and was handed down on September 13 this year.
With the measure, the preventive arrests of Ronnie Lessa and Élcio Queiroz are maintained.
The defense of Élcio Queiroz, lawyer Henrique Telles, stated that “the defense has always made clear its dissatisfaction and disagreement with such a decision, since the assumptions of art. 312 of the CPP”.
“Not to mention that there is no evidence to support the arrest of my defender”, added the lawyer.

Marielle Franco was shot in a car on Rua Joaquim Palhares, in the Estácio neighborhood, central Rio de Janeiro. The crime took place around 9 pm, after the councilor had left an event at Casa das Pretas, in the Lapa neighborhood.
In addition to the parliamentarian, driver Anderson Pedro Gomes was also shot and died. Fernanda Gonçalves, the mandate’s chief of staff, hit by shrapnel, was the only survivor.
The investigation by the Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro points out that a vehicle driven by former military police officer Élcio de Queiroz paired up with the parliamentarian’s car. From inside the vehicle, retired military police sergeant Ronnie Lessa reportedly shot at least thirteen times at the group.
The councilwoman, who was in the back seat, was shot four times in the head while Anderson was shot three times in the back.
